Certificate Course in Medication Management (Geriatric Care)
Program Objective
The course is designed to provide pharmacists with the knowledge and skills required for medication management to the elderly, especially in the old aged home, nursing home or hostel settings etc. in order to optimize medication use, prevent adverse drug events, reduce drug expenditure and wastage.
 
Programme Structure
This is a part-time short course. Students will learn from teachers of the school of pharmacy, as well as expert physicians and pharmacists with relevant clinical background from local practice.
 
Format of Teaching
Lectures and case studies.
 
Content Coverage Scope
The course content will mainly focus on drug-related and patient care issues for population e.g.
  • Principles of geriatric pharmacy
  • Concept and implementation of pharmaceutical care and medication reconciliation
  • Therapeutics of common diseases in the elderly
  • Drug related problems and common adverse drug events in the elderly
  • Geriatric case studies and discussions
 
Eligibility
The candidate must possess a bachelor degree or above in Pharmacy.
 
Assessment
Attendance, presentation and written examination.
 
Teaching Staff
The majority of teaching staff will be from School of Pharmacy as well as expert physicians and pharmacists with relevant clinical backgrounds.
 
Language
English will be used mainly as a medium of instructions; Cantonese may be used by speakers to suit the individual lectures objectives.
 
Graduation Requirements
Students must fulfill all the following criteria to be granted a certificate of completion
(a) 75% attendance;
(b) A Passing grade (56%) on the written examination
For students who achieved a 75% attendance but not passing the written examination, a certificate of attendance will be issued.

1. A copy of HK identity card
2. A copy of Bachelor of Pharmacy graduation certificate
3. A separate crossed cheque payable to 'The Chinese University of Hong Kong' for each course you are applying for.
